Absolutely Pure Skin Food is an intensely moisturising, skin-healing balm made from pure tallow, certified organic oils of babassu, macadamia and jojoba. High in fat-soluble vitamins and low in PUFAs, it melts in to the skin and gets to work nourishing cells and replenishing much-needed fats which help to restore moisture long-term.

Organic, pure and 100% natural.  Free of petrochemicals, artificial fragrance and colouring.

Available unscented (for those with sensitive skin prone to irritation from essential oils) and with Rose Geranium essential oil.

What's in Absolutely Pure Skin Food?

My balm has been uniquely formulated to be as beneficial as possible for the skin. After much research I narrowed down the purest ingredients and measured the perfect combination to create a soft, smooth balm which is low in PUFAs and high in the crucial fats and vitamins parched, thirsty skin needs.

One of the oils I added to organic, grass-fed tallow - along with babassu - is macadamia oil, as it is low in PUFAs and has a chemical profile very similar to that of sebum. Its high conjugated linoleic fatty acid content makes it great for skin that has difficulty retaining moisture as it helps to prevent trans-epidermal water loss.

Macadamia oil also contains one of the highest sources of palmitoleic fatty acids (between 16 and 23%) - vital for minimising skin damage and avoiding premature ageing. When the oil is applied topically it improves the skin’s palmitoleic acid levels. This decreases the rate at which skin deteriorates, keeping it taut and discouraging wrinkles from forming. As your skin ages it rapidly becomes depleted in this important fatty acid, which is why macadamia is the perfect inclusion for mature skins.

Aside from non-GMO vitamin E oil, the only other ingredient (in the scented version) is rose geranium oil. There are dozens of essential oils I could have chosen – but I particularly wanted one with benefits for the skin as well as a pleasant scent. Geranium oil is non-irritating, generally safe for all ages, is reputed to possess abilities such as antiseptic and wound-healing. Geranium oil may also be one of the best oils for diverse dermatological problems such as oily or congested skin, eczema, and dermatitis. What’s more, it has an uplifting, sweet floral scent that is said to promote emotional wellness and improved mood.

How can banishing PUFAs help to plump, tone and smooth skin?

PUFA stands for Poly-Unsaturated Fatty Acid, which means that the fatty acid has more than one (poly) double bond in the carbon chain. PUFAs are prone to oxidation which means that when exposed to heat, light or moisture they react with oxygen to produce toxic, free-radical particles that are harmful to your body internally and externally.

Whilst they’re present in mainstream products, they are more widespread in natural ones and include oils commonly known for ‘beautifying’ like hemp, sunflower and sesame. Often you think that by choosing natural you're doing your skin a favour, when in actual fact you could be damaging it.

Continued use of these products is understandably bad news for your skin. In studies, the oxidisation of PUFAs has been shown to lead to cell destruction – and the result of this is unstable, damaged skin prone to breakouts, chronic dryness, 'age' or 'liver' spots, sagging and wrinkles.

Absolutely Pure Skin Food is low in PUFAs – and tallow’s rich fat content naturally combats the destructive tendencies of PUFAs upon the skin.

How does tallow help to reduce signs of ageing and alleviate dry skin conditions?

Why is Absolutely Pure Skin Food so nourishing for skin?

The powerful benefits of Skin Food are derived from its high levels of saturated fats. Unlike PUFAs, saturated fats actively repair and strengthen your skin’s inner structure. This is because your cell membranes are comprised of 50 - 55% saturated fat – so feeding skin cells with this vital anti-inflammatory nutrient helps to maintain their structure,  aids regular cell repair and renewal and combats dryness.

Healthy, soft skin boasts cells that are rich in saturated fats and fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D and K – which is why tallow is so effective in toning, moisturising and improving the skin's overall condition and appearance.

Tallow has been shown to be uniquely identical to skin’s own biological composition - sebum is Latin for tallow - this is why it is so intensely hydrating and can significantly improve skin texture.

Improve skin’s appearance and condition

The main ingredient in Skin Food is pure, organic tallow. This highly nourishing raw material can be incredibly beneficial for numerous skin complaints, including chronic dryness, confidence-crushing eczema and painful psoriasis. This 100% pure and natural product is gentle and kind to skin.

I believe that skincare should be treated as food for your skin – and as skin absorbs much of what you apply to it, why would you apply anything on the outside which you wouldn’t be happy to digest on the inside?

100% Ethical and close to nature

The tallow used in my soothing balm is responsibly sourced from ethically-farmed, grass-fed cattle which graze freely on organically farmed pastures. The use of creamy, nourishing tallow as a skincare product is an ancestral practice, dating back centuries.
